377 Derivation and Use of Genomic Enhanced Estimated Breeding Values for Selection in Sheep

چکیده
Abstract The efficacy of selection programs in sheep depends on accurate evaluation genetic merit. Globally, evaluations are based best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) which fixed effects and breeding values estimated simultaneously. With genotyping becoming increasingly routine, pedigree, performance, genomic data being combined single-step BLUP (ssGBLUP) to generate enhanced (GEBV). Since GEBV more accurate, younger animals can be selected reliably; a corollary benefit is shortened generation interval. Traits that lowly heritable, expressed one sex, measured late life, or difficult and/or expensive measure most from evaluation. Adoption this technology has lagged likely due the higher cost compared value an animal. Nevertheless, genomics been successfully incorporated several countries (e.g., Australia, France, New Zealand). Increases accuracy EBV up 60% have reported. In 2021, U.S. breed (Katahdin) was tested by comparing predictive ability bias using ssGBLUP pedigree for weight fecal egg counts at weaning. Approximately 5,000 animals, born within last 5 years, were genotyped with 50k array. Nearly 70k body weights 14k available. Genomic information improved both traits as much 10%, reduced counts. Accuracies appreciably (by 1.81 times). An outcome release Katahdin sheep. integration into evaluation, there clear opportunity augment reliability thereby rates response

متن کاملUse of Genomic Estimated Breeding Values Results in Rapid Genetic Gains for Drought Tolerance in Maize.
More than 80% of the 19 million ha of maize ( L.) in tropical Asia is rainfed and prone to drought. The breeding methods for improving drought tolerance (DT), including genomic selection (GS), are geared to increase the frequency of favorable alleles. Two biparental populations (CIMMYT-Asia Population 1 [CAP1] and CAP2) were generated by crossing elite Asian-adapted yellow inbreds (CML470 and V...

Enteric methane emissions from beef cattle are a significant component of total greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture. The variation between beef cattle in methane emissions is partly genetic, whether measured as methane production, methane yield (methane production/DMI), or residual methane production (observed methane production - expected methane production), with heritabilities ranging ...

introduction genetic evaluation and estimation of breeding value are one of the most fundamental elements of breeding programmes for genetic improvement. recently, genomic selection has become an efficient method to approach this aim. the accuracy of estimated genomic breeding value is the most important factor in genomic selection. different studies have been performed addressing the factors a...
متن کاملGenomic Estimated Breeding Values Using Genomic Relationship Matrices in a Cloned Population of Loblolly Pine
Replacement of the average numerator relationship matrix derived from the pedigree with the realized genomic relationship matrix based on DNA markers might be an attractive strategy in forest tree breeding for predictions of genetic merit. We used genotypes from 3461 single-nucleotide polymorphism loci to estimate genomic relationships for a population of 165 loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) indi...
